"Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it." - Charles R
Our Social-Emotional enhancement group is designed primarily for children with an ongoing educational component for parents to learn more about supporting children to become socially and emotionally competent and learning an array of activities in managing social anxiety.
Here's what you'll learn...
Becoming emotionally competent
How our senses affect our emotions
What it means to be in and out of our "Just Right" zone
Manage big feelings through yoga and various games, arts and crafts
Engaging in social situations with empowerment and courage
How the group works...
Our "Brave Bobcats" group for socio-emotional regulation and competence is geared to kids dealing with social anxiety and/or Selective Mutism.
Here is how it works: the group is facilitated by an occupational therapist and a mental health therapist; the parents and the kids initially participate in a sensory-motor/art activity together and then parents leave the room and will wait in the lobby. The kids will be engaging in various activities that promote regulation to then learn about how the brain works, various zones of emotional regulation, identification of feelings, engaging in fun games in the group, creating a "Brave Box" and more. Families will make a journal to track progress and communicate with the therapist any additional questions or concerns. Also, the families will learn about the curriculum so that they practice the same emotional vocabulary at home.
