Volney Tavarez, M.A., AMFT
Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist
Volney is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who works with children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and families to regain and deepen their connection to themselves and others. She works to build a warm, genuine connection rooted in trust and acceptance, from which development and lasting change can occur. Volney works across the life-span to help achieve integration, develop resilience, empathy, and honor the whole self.
In addition to her clinical work, Volney has worked with children on the Autism spectrum and their families to develop meaningful, attuned, and warm relationships. Over the past five years, she has received extensive training in the DIR/Floortime model, which she utilizes to help restore hope and confidence while honoring neuro differences, and cognitive and sensory challenges. She accesses and nurtures the natural strengths and interests to support children’s social and emotional development through their first language, play.
Volney received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University, where she was recognized by the Department of Graduate Psychology for her Outstanding Empathy and was invited into Alpha Chi National College Honor Society.
Volney and her husband enjoy spending their time chasing their curious young son and two dogs around Claremont.
